Services
The practitioners at Life Point Acupuncture provide a wide variety of services to meet the needs of our patients. We aim to not only treat the symptoms that brought you to us, but also to address any other underlying health factors affecting your quality of life. Life Point offers safe and effective therapies that offer patients maximum health and wellness benefits with minimum risk. The modalities described below go far beyond holistic or alternative medicine; they represent evidence-based approaches embraced by medical experts in the U.S. and around the world.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the insertion of single-use, solid, sterile needles at specific points to restore biochemical balance in the body, relieve muscle tension, and stimulate the immune system. Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins and the body's natural pain-killing chemicals that decrease inflammation and relieve stress. While most associate it simply as a system of inserting needles at specific points to alleviate pain, acupuncture is a proven medical protocol that has been used for thousands of years to prevent, diagnose and treat various diseases and ailments, as well as to improve and maintain health and wellbeing.
Cupping
Cupping is a negative pressure technique where cups are placed over the affected area to relieve pain. This technique applies negative pressure instead of positive pressure (massage). We also prefer sliding the cups to lengthen chronically shortened muscles. Chronically tight muscles create unhealthy patterns of compensation in the body and lead to injury. They also place strain on your joints and ligaments aggravating or speeding up arthritis. Cupping is a Life Point specialty and we recommend this service to enhance the results of most acupuncture treatments. Patients with neck pain, shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, arthritis, low back pain, hip pain, shin splints, and knee pain love adding cupping to their treatments. Cupping is included in our All In Acupuncture Treatments. You can also call the office if you would like to come in for cupping without acupuncture or any other services.
Herbal Medicine and Supplements
Food is the medicine taken in by our bodies every day. Nutritional guidance and supplementation, when necessary, help guide the patient in choosing the correct foods depending on their symptoms or state of disease. We combine both eastern and western nutrition approaches to help alleviate symptoms and improve overall health. These approaches involve everything from simple kitchen sink remedies to elimination diets. The team at Life Point has also developed diet protocols specific for fertility patients and lactating mothers.
Nutrition advice is included in all acupuncture treatments with our practitioners. You can also book a nutrition consult with our providers if you are seeking nutrition advice outside of acupuncture specific to fertility or weight management.
The practitioners at Life Point recommend supplements and herbs to patients that want to address fatigue, hair loss, infertility, count recovery after chemotherapy (with Dr. approval), hormonal imbalances, irregular menstrual cycles, changes in blood pressure, metabolic and digestive disorders, and more.
Manual Therapy
Massage and other manual therapy techniques will be performed to enhance your acupuncture treatment. Most patients coming in for orthopedic and sports injuries, neuropathy, headaches and stress will benefit from this service. We also recommend massage for increasing patients range of motion after surgery, enhancing sports performance, and overall health maintenance. Our acupuncturists are well trained in many different styles of massage and will implement the correct technique based on the individual’s injury, diagnosis, and preference.
Electric Stimulation
The use of PENS or a percutaneous electric nerve stimulation device. Electrodes are connected to the exposed needle shaft. This stimulus surpasses skin resistance delivering electrical stimuli at precise levels in close proximity to the site of pain. Electric stimulus is preferred in the treatment of rotator cuff injuries, pinched nerve, back pain, muscle atrophy, knee pain, and Bell’s Palsy.
Moxibustion
Artemisia Vulgaris or Mugwort is applied topically and warmed over the affected area or acupuncture point to facilitate healing. Moxibustion works as an analgesic by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammatory cells to relieve pain. It has been proven to regulate the activity of the body's immune system cells, protecting the body from viruses and bacterial infections. This form of treatment is also commonly used in fertility and menstrual disorders as it stimulates blood flow in the pelvic area and uterus. We also use this technique on the pinkie toe to turn a breech fetus.
Orthopedic Acupuncture/Dry Needling
Dry needling is performed in a patient's specific limb or pain area. Our practitioners insert fine, short, solid needles into the body that do not inject fluid into the body (hence “dry” needling). When done by an experienced practitioner, dry needling helps release muscular motor points and alleviates chronic or acute tension in the muscle. Dry needling has the effect of releasing knots, eliminating pain, and alleviating pressure surrounding the muscle, connective, and nervous tissue. The providers at Life Point have additional sports medicine training in this type of acupuncture and can confidently diagnose and treat orthopedic injuries. All patients that are trying to recover from injuries and avoid surgery should give this type of acupuncture a try.
IVF Transfer Acupuncture
Research shows that two acupuncture treatments administered on the day of embryo transfer (one session before and one after the transfer) can significantly increase IVF success rates. In fact, some studies show that acupuncture during this stage can almost double IVF success rates.
Acupuncture accomplishes this by:
Increase production of endogenous opioids, which inhibit biological stress responses, which can be a hindrance to women trying to conceive
Stimulate blood flow to the uterus by inhibiting uterine central sympathetic nerve activity
Increase blood flow to the ovaries during the stimulation phase of IVF enhancing the effectiveness of the treatment provided by your fertility specialist. It also relaxes the uterus and decreases uterine spasm after embryo transfer.
Before your embryo transfer, our providers recommend 1-2 months of weekly acupuncture that may increase to 1-2 times a week during the stimulation phase of IVF. Learn more about how acupuncture can improve fertility and improve IVF success outcomes.
Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil packs can be used to treat a range of ailments that include contipation, bloating, hormone imbalances, impaired detox, and pain. Add this service on to your acupuncture treatment to enhance blood flow to the targeted area, balance hormones, improve digestion, and promote a parasympathetic response in the nervous system. We simply apply the oil to the abdomen or area of pain with gauze and place heat over it. This allows the oil to absorb into your skin. Castor oil stimulates nerves in the gastrointestinal tract that increase intestinal secretions. This allows food to pass through the intestines more quickly, making it an excellent remedy for constipation. The essential fatty acids encourage movement of chemical energy within the body, resulting in a detoxifying effect. This makes it great for inflammatory symptoms and disorders, such as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, post COVID or viral infection symptoms, brain fog, allergies, headaches, food sensitivities, rheumatoid arthritis, hormone imbalances, fatigue, and Lyme’s disease. We also love using these packs for period cramps, PMS, endometriosis, fibroids, fertility, irregular periods, arthritis, orthopedic injuries, tendonitis, and cramping muscles.
LED Light Therapy
Light Emitting Diodes are an effective form of low level light therapy used to treat a variety of concerns such as acne, wrinkles, and pain. It is a pain-free, non-invasive, non-toxic and rejuvenating treatment for your body at a cellular level. The idea of using light therapy for therapeutic benefits came from NASA who initially developed testing for astronauts who became injured or sick during longer missions. They discovered that light energy had the ability to promote wound healing and tissue growth. Medical professionals have harnessed this technology to treat inflammation, wrinkles, acne, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, rosacea, post-procedure recovery, to enhance facial rejuvenation acupuncture treatments, and to enhance and reduce redness following microneedling treatments.
Facial Rejuvination Acupuncture
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a combined approach facial that integrates acupuncture and TCM diagnosis. The patient will communicate their concerns and allow the provider to evaluate and discuss areas for improvement. Facial points will be combined with some body points to encourage fresh blood flow and collagen production, balance uneven skin tone, treat hyperpigmentation and rosacea, reduce fine lines, circulate retained fluids, and boost the immune system. LED light will be placed over the face for 20 - 30 minutes. Gentle facial massage, gua sha, jade rolling and cupping will be incorporated into the treatment to enhance the patient’s experience and results. Years of aging can be erased in as little as 10-15 treatments.
Gua Sha
Gua sha includes gently scraping along muscles to relieve stubborn muscular tension and pain. This will also be an important part of your facial rejuvenation treatment as it relaxes overworked muscles to reduce fine lines, regulate blood flow, reduce inflammation and alleviate fluid retention. Gua sha is one of our favorite services for TMJ, tension headaches, neck pain, golfer and tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis.
Ear Seeds / Tacks
Acupuncture ear seeds are part of a larger practice called auriculotherapy or ear acupuncture. In this practice, the ear serves as a microsystem of the entire body. The nerves from the ear connect with the reflex centers in the brain. These neurological pathways send messages to the spinal cord and the part of the body being targeted.
Ear seeds and tacks are a great way to enhance the overall results of your treatment. They can serve as an alternative to treatment when a patient has a work trip or vacation scheduled at the time that they are due for their next treatment. Life Point practitioners love using ear seeds for stress management, morning sickness, insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain, and weight loss.
